FEMA says insurance companies across the U.S. will be offering assistance to home and business owners
Prevention is in the best interest of all residents in flooded areas and the insurance industry is determined to help.
BOULDER, Colorado—As insurance companies across the country do all they can to help people affected by the recent flood disasters in the southeast Kansas City area, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) encourage all homeowners and business owners to submit and complete an insurance claim if they have been injured or have their property damaged by flooding.
“As flood insurance program administrators we understand the critical need for homeowners and business owners to be able to recover quickly and economically from the recent storms,” said NFIP Administrator David J. Montoya. “Our program is here to help property owners in their time of need. Homeowners and businesses need to know we are here to serve them in these tough times.”
Insurance companies are offering assistance in a number of ways, including by:
• Working with insurance agents and brokers to help update homeowner’s flood insurance to cover flood damage within the NFIP or by obtaining a new policy; and
• Offering reduced rates for some homeowners and businesses that have flood damage within their homes or businesses; and
• Providing answers about their insurance coverage from the claims filing process through to the reimbursement of losses.
FEMA encourages property owners to complete a flood insurance claims form that can be submitted online at floodinsurance.gov, or by calling 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY), or by calling your insurance agent or broker.
For those who have flood damage but have not yet filed a claim, FEMA encourages them to take advantage of the Home Equity Theft Insurance (HETI) Program. The HETI Program is available to those who have home equity loans or homeowner’s insurance policies
