RooTrak is an easy to use application that allows you to perform root traits measurements on your µCT scans. It can read data from RooTrak NanoAnalyzer and extract the micro CT data. Once the data is extracted, it can perform a 3D rendering and volume rendering, which means that it can generate a 3D model of the root and its soil. If you use RooTrak with ScanEXT, you can also perform traits measurements on scanned root images.

RooTrak supports only one software based on old version of RooTrak. You can set custom Macro Commands in your scanner, where you can do many tasks, such as to scan, calibrate, export data and manage micro CT files. You can set Macro Commands for each root file or root folder.

RooTrak can extract the root, which enables you to determine the number of roots and to measure the size of the root system. RooTrak can extract each root in a root or root folder.

Root Traits Analysis is a quick way of extracting important traits from a 3D RooTrak generated root volume or orthomicro CT volume (or any µCT data file).
The aim of the project is to develop a computer based genetic optimisation system for numerical models of benthic sedimentary environments in the estuary of the Portuguese river Douro, in an area affected by contamination from both natural and anthropic origins.
The original project (from 2002 to 2009) in collaboration with the Portuguese São João University (Porto) has been awarded with an Erasmus Grant (awarded by the European Commission, the Erasmus Programme for students and researchers mobility).
The current (2010 to date) edition of the project is a collaboration with the University of Minho (Porto) and the CEBRA (Centre for Biotic Research of the Algarve), which brought the project to the Algarve region of the coast of the southern Atlantic of Portugal.

RooTrak is able to read, extract and display 3D microCT scans of the plant root system.
When working in RooTrak volume mode, you have the possibility to select the layers of your stack of raw microCT data.
For example: when a root is set on the middle of the image stack, the user can select only the slice where the root is present. In this way, the root can be displayed without background noise.
For the same purpose, RooTrak volume rendering mode provides the possibility to add an opacity adjustment on the root.
