Quadrophonic Matrix Decoder & Player is a small, simple, Java based application specially designed to help you decode quadrophonic matrix encoded file.
Quadrophonics is a technology developed and used in the 1970’s that applies an encoding matrix to the four input channels LF (Left Front), RF, LB (Left Back) and RB to record them into 2 channels.
Playing back such an encoded recording by applying the correct decoding matrix brings back most of the original four channels (4:2:4 Encoding/Decoding).

General information on quadrophonic audio:
.TMAD files were created by the Muzak division of AT&T. A quadrophonic matrix was implemented in Muzak’s professional orchestra and background music scoring systems.
The LFM format (or.LFM) was created by the founder of Quadrophonic Audio Engineering, Dr Robert C Paine.
The QPM (Quadraphonic Matrix) format was developed in the 1970’s.
The.TMAD (Muzak T-Matrix Authoring Data) format was a later improved version of the.TMAD format.
.TMAD files can be converted to QPM files (not vice versa).
As the QPM format was introduced in the 1970’s,.TMAD files were originally created in the.TMAD format only.
.TMAD files were saved as plain text (.TXT) files, which makes them easy to work with.
.QPM files were saved as plain text (.TXT) files too.
.QPM files are usually generated by the matriceside program by Thomas Matzinger.
Quadrophonic matrix decoders can decode.QPM files and.TMAD files too.
Quadrophonic matrix encoders are also available.
.TMAD files are usually created in the.TMAD format.
.TMAD files are also saved as plain text (.TXT) files.
There is some public domain software available for decoding matrix files.
