# Camera and Computer Requirements
When working in Photoshop, you don’t need the most expensive computer or the most expensive camera, but you do need some basic requirements. If you are just starting to work with Photoshop, then you don’t need any special equipment.
Many inexpensive _webcams_ (see Figure 9-1) —camera-sized devices that work on a regular computer —give you the ability to record video and have that video saved on a disk. More expensive camcorders record video that can be played back on a computer. (In this book, we use inexpensive digital cameras.)

Using Photoshop Elements to edit photos
The best way to edit images in Photoshop Elements is to use the menu. For example, to crop an image, you should press the Crop menu from the main toolbar. In some of the previews, you may see a rectangle with four points of a cross on a red circle. Click on that red circle to crop the image. If the crop point is greyed out, there are no cropping options.
To resize an image, press the Zoom or Magnify menu from the main toolbar, and pick from the menu the appropriate zoom. For example, to make the image look smaller, press the Zoom menu and choose -2. Click OK to apply the changes. The image will disappear and then reappear in a new frame. That way, you can see the change you made. The image zoom controls will look different depending on what zoom level you are on. The zoom in box will have arrows, a scale text and a zoom out box. The new frame has an OK button and the same -2 zoom, and the image magnification will be listed in the lower left corner.
To crop the image, select the option from the main toolbar. You will see a crop circle with a red line. The image inside the box will be the cropped region, it will be a square, a circle or an ellipse. You can further choose from the crop options with the corresponding arrows on the left side of the crop box.
To edit the image in Photoshop Elements, select an image and then click on the Open or Open Recent button on the main toolbar. The Open or Open Recent button will contain the image you last used. This can be changed by simply clicking on the button or going to the Image → Open or Open Recent menu and pick another image.
