Luhn is a simple algorithm that was used to determine the validity of financial documents for years. The algorithm is relatively easy to implement, as it is based on the fact that you multiply two codes and get a checksum – there’s no need to carry the modulo operation with this algorithm.

– sum up and take the 2’s complement. This is the most simple algorithm.
– store the checksum and re-calculate it if the original checksum is changed.
– if the sum is zero, then the number is invalid and you should display the message.
– if the sum is greater than 9 then you should add (like 8+1) and recalculate the checksum.
– if the sum is less than 0 (or negative) then you should subtract (like -8 – 1) and recalculate the checksum.
