Adjustment Layers
Photoshop adjusts the color, brightness, and contrast of images that are chosen as the subject of the Adjustment layer. This lets you create images that are designed to look either more professionally or more simply.
Here’s an example of how an adjustment layer is created:
1. **Choose Image** ⇒ **Adjustment** ⇒ **Levels.**
2. **In the Levels dialog, set the input and output ranges to the proper color and brightness settings for the image that you want to adjust.**
3. **Check the box next to “Invert.”**
4. **Click OK.**
Adjustment layers are very powerful tools and can produce surprising results if you experiment and learn how to use them.
5. **Select the Levels adjustment layer and click the Subtract** button, as shown in Figure 7-17.**
The colors become darker and lighter, as shown in Figure 7-17. You can see the result of the Adjustment layer subtraction in the colors around the playground on the left of the figure.
Photoshop’s Adjustment layers are always arranged on the same layer, and you can add, modify, duplicate, or delete them as you like.
