The term _Photoshop_ has become so widespread that it can be difficult to distinguish between the core software for editing images and Adobe’s other products. The commercial trademarked version of Photoshop is Photoshop Elements. It’s a basic version of Photoshop with special advantages for creating, editing, and sharing photos online. Since it’s free, you’ll want to use it to help you learn the basic uses of Photoshop. Photoshop CS or Photoshop CS2 are less cumbersome when it comes to drag-and-drop editing and vector, type, and filter effects. Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS4 offers more features and is geared toward advanced users. Photoshop CS5 is the most updated version currently available. Photoshop and Photoshop Elements work on all Windows computers, while Elements requires Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
Photoshop Elements
The free program Photoshop Elements (see Figure 4-2, top) uses a PC’s graphics card to process images and get the best from them. Because it costs nothing to use, Elements can be used to learn the basic uses of Photoshop. It’s relatively easy to use Elements, and it has enough capabilities to create, edit, and work with images, though it is designed mainly for e-mailing, uploading, printing, and sharing digital files online.
You can browse through the image types, which includes image, photo, vector, and drawing and then sort them into folders, organize them into albums, and add special effects and filters and then save images to your hard drive. It also has a previewer that allows you to see what the file will look like on the Internet. Elements is even capable of creating and delivering an animated GIF file, allowing you to create and send to others an animated photo.
When you bring your images into Elements, they appear in a very simple way with little or no text or other info; however, you can easily add all kinds of text to an image, plus create your own graphics and add elements such as arrows and circles.
Photoshop Elements on the Mac
Mac users can download and install Photoshop Elements for Mac OS X. Its interface is much simpler than that for Windows and offers fewer editing tools. However, it can be used to create, edit, and work with images. It’s free, but like Photoshop for Windows, it is not geared to create your own images. You can access a step-by-step tutorial on how to do so via Help (can be accessed at the start menu’s Help option).

How to Create a Template
When you make a template you will use it to reuse the same background image, overlays, or both, for multiple images.
How do you create a template in Photoshop Elements?
Creating a Photoshop template works pretty much the same way as Photoshop, just with different tools and in a more compressed format.
You can either create a template yourself, or download a template from the Internet.
Here is how you create a template in Photoshop Elements:
To create a template you must first save a copy of your image.
You can do this by pressing CTRL+S or File > Save.
After you have saved the image, click once on File > Create > New > Basic Template.
A New template will open in Photoshop Elements, and will include the background image you saved in the top toolbox.
Now just drag and drop a bunch of different graphics and items from the Toolbox onto the New Template.
You can now drag and drop them onto the image to create a new template.
You can use the Wrench icon to rename the template.
If you want to do some tasks over all of the graphics that you added you can select all of them, right click on them, and choose the Move tool from the context menu.
After you have added all the things you want to do to your template, right click on the template and select the Create Basic Overlay tool from the context menu.
You now have a template and you can save it, or you can continue editing it.
You can also download a template from this site. Some of them are free, while some have a cost for a more comprehensive project.

Build x-axis timeseries plot with Pandas
I have a pandas dataframe which includes a timestamp column:

And I want to plot a timeseries graph in a single line, with the y-axis representing a variable value (and date) and the x-axis representing time, like below:
I think it could be done with pandas by defining two new dataframes, one that includes the variable and the second that contains the time (and then merge them, which should give me a line graph). Is there a simpler way?

Use plot.xticks instead of plot.xaxis to format the x-axis.
The datetime column is used to define the x-axis, the other columns will define the y-axis data.
