History and development
Originally developed for the desktop, AutoCAD® is now a comprehensive and cross-platform 2D CAD application. The first version of AutoCAD (Version 1) was released on December 15, 1982. Versions 1 through 7 used a menu-driven interface. With the release of AutoCAD 2011, several new features were added. A new high performance and scalable drawing engine, object management and collaboration tools, and additional XML/DWG compatibility enhancements were added to the latest release of AutoCAD.
