In Adobe Photoshop, the Magic Widget is one of the most valuable tools. To see the Magic Widget, choose Window⇒Show View Options to display the Display Options dialog box. Then choose Magic on the left side of the dialog box.
Once you choose Magic, a slider appears on the left side of the window to control how much of the photo appears. The Magic Widget is most helpful at full size because you can see the full effect before you make any edits.
When you’re done editing, switch to original view (again, choose Window⇒Show View Options to display the Display Options dialog box, and then choose View⇒Original from the menu; select Full Screen on the View menu to view the photo at full size).
Notice that when the Magic Widget is displaying the edited photo, any edits are stored as a Photoshop file rather than as an image file. You can then open the Photoshop file to make additional edits to it.
Understanding the Toolsets and the Toolbox
When you first run Photoshop, the Basic Tools and File menu in the top right of the program window are displayed. The Basic Tools include the following:
Crop: Crop displays the Crop dialog box, which you can use to resize an image for presentation or for electronic printing. Press Shift+Ctrl+C (Shift-⌘-C on a Mac) to select the Crop tool. Then drag a bounding box in any direction on the image.
Convert to Photo: This icon is a toggle button that enables you to view the image with a digital camera or as an image taken by the camera. Click to toggle between these two image types. When you click again, the previous image is displayed.
