I have a situation where I want to compare the performance of an Apex Code function vs the equivalent data retrieval function in a query. I am in the process of profiling my application and have started using Visual Profiler to determine a baseline. Here is my question:
When I run a similar query against the same dataset using the query editor (specifically the query builder in the query editor) and a results set tracking query, the query builder will run the query in under 100 ms, while the query builder of the same query runs in over 2000 ms. I also tried hitting the database and running the query manually, and I get results in around half that time. (I have not looked at any non-query related things, such as running the profile in the same transaction, but it doesn’t make a difference).
