The present invention relates to multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) transmission over wireless links. More particularly, the present invention relates to adjusting the transmission-mode for MIMO-OFDM based on a statistical analysis of a pilot signal.
2. Description of the Related Art
A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system transmits or receives multiple antenna signals to or from a single receiver or transmitter. The MIMO system allows a radio frequency (RF) signal to be transmitted from multiple antennas to ensure coverage without overlaps or gaps. The MIMO signals are processed and then transmitted through RF antennas. The MIMO signals are transmitted using a MIMO-OFDM scheme, which requires higher data throughput than conventional OFDM systems. The data throughput increases since data-streaming is performed in a multi-codeword fashion.
The MIMO system exploits spatial multiplexing by simultaneously transmitting data over MIMO-OFDM. In addition, a reception device in the MIMO system performs signal processing to generate time and frequency multiplexing to recover the data. The conversion of the time and frequency multiplexing into a single stream is referred to as channel decoding, and thus the MIMO system may be referred to as a MIMO-OFDM system.
The MIMO-OFDM system involves a feedback phase called channel-estimation phase, in which a receiver makes a channel-estimation of the MIMO system. The feedback phase is used to provide the receiver with a reference signal, which is based on the estimated channel.
When OFDM communication is performed, a guard interval (GI) can be inserted into a sub-channel in order to avoid the overlap between the sub-channel and the next sub-channel, and the GI has a pre-filed correlation between two or more sub-channels. That is, the correlation of the pre-filed GI indicates that the correlation of a pilot signal at a specific frequency fout has a specific correlation.
However, it may be difficult to provide the above-described pre-filed correlation at

The main cause of image artifacts generated by pulse inversion harmonic imaging is related to the nonlinearity of the transmit radio frequency (RF) system. One of the approaches to improve the image quality is to apply second order and third order RF modulation. In this work, this approach is evaluated numerically. It was found that the modulation of only second order can lead to quite small enhancements in visibility of image artifacts.A single-blind pilot study of two ultrasound contrast agents in cerebral angiography and endovascular treatment.
