I have a new Dell XPS M1530 laptop with Windows 7 and 8.1 installed. I would like to install Ubuntu 14.04, but I am encountering several issues that are troubling me. I have googled extensively, but have not found a solution to these problems.
Two main issues I am having are that I cannot find a way to change the HDMI output to a display other than the built-in screen. I have tried selecting the HDMI as the only output, but it defaults to the built-in screen. I have also tried setting the display as the only output and then selecting HDMI, but that did not work.
As for the keyboard and mouse, when I boot up the machine, the mouse and keyboard do not function. I tried resetting the BIOS to default, but that did not work. The mouse and keyboard still do not work.
I am completely new to Linux, and I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue.

Life and career
Born in the southern English county of Dorset, Asbridge attended the Royal Academy of Music and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. He has been a conductor with the NDR Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He has also led major works in the UK and Europe.
Asbridge made his conducting debut in Germany at the age of 20, and his first symphonic appearance at the age of 23, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican. His discography with Sony includes recordings of the Goldberg Variations, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky. In addition, he has recorded the Mozart piano concerto No. 25 with Susanna Mälkki on the piano. He is also known for his conducting of the English première of the C. P. E. Bach version of The Rake’s Progress by Henry Purcell.
He made his first appearance with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich in 2006. He made his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Netherlands on 15 December 2007.
