1. Why Use Photoshop?
There are many reasons why a designer, photographer or other creatives might use Photoshop. It is a powerful tool that enables creative professionals to create digital images. For the sake of brevity, we’re going to quickly cover how to use Photoshop. For a deeper dive, check out its Wikipedia page.
2. Photoshop “Layers”
If you’re a beginner, you may find that Photoshop’s a bit overwhelming. An essential understanding of layers will help you get an appreciation for Photoshop’s layers.
If a image has multiple layers, they’re organized vertically in order of most recently added. If you’re working on an image that has more than one layer, Photoshop will enable you to show the top layer.
In our example image above, the layers are clearly visible.
3. Working With Photoshop’s Layers
Working with layers is the most important skill to master when using Photoshop.
You can layer any image in Photoshop. However, more complex images may have hundreds or thousands of layers, making it difficult to work on a specific layer.
To work on a specific layer, you’ll need to create a layer using the Layers tools.
The Layers palette is located on the left side of the screen. You can easily toggle between showing the layers and a preview by clicking on the arrow icon.
To create a new layer, click on the layer icon at the bottom of the palette to open the New Layer dialog box.
Type in a name in the upper-left corner and check the box beside “New Layer”. Then click “OK”.
You can also click on the top layer and press “Ctrl” to make a new layer.
To work on an existing layer, simply click on the layer icon.
4. Erasing an Object
After you’ve created a new layer, you can erase parts of an object by using the Eraser tool.
Click on the Eraser tool icon in the tools palette to open the Eraser dialog box.
Click on the icon to the right of the brush size and select a brush size that’s larger than the object.
Then click where you want the object to be erased.
You can toggle between the pencil and paintbrushes by clicking on the pencil icon.

First, make sure the program is installed and that you have the latest version. Go to your Adobe Application Manager and check your software updates. If you see a red arrow to upgrade, download and install it.
There are two main ways to use Photoshop Elements:
You can click the crop icon, select your subject and click the Edit button. As you move the selection handles, the image is scaled and framed, but the aspect ratio is preserved.
There are three major tools for photo editing:

Select an area for cropping or adjusting color
Crop:
Crop selected photos so they are one of the four standard sizes: square, rectangle (3:2), portrait (4:3) or landscape (16:9)
Curves and Levels:
Adjust the white and black points of an image by curving the points to help even out shadows and highlights
Burn and dodge:
Adjust the lightness or darkness of selected areas using the Burn (darken) and Dodge (lighten) tools
You can also:
Photo editing becomes more difficult when you use settings that distort shapes or create a color cast. Photoshop Elements has powerful features for adjusting the overall color and tonal value of an image. These features are located in the Adjustments panel.

You can customize the panel by clicking on the panel’s tab at the top of the tools panel (Figure 1). Click the tab to view the customized tools.

Selective Color: This tool allows you to change the color of a selected area of an image or the color of an object. It’s useful for correcting color-based issues in an image. For instance, if someone was using a camera that has color issues, you can use this tool to fix it.
The Smudge Tool allows you to blur the edges of an image. This can be useful for removing unwanted objects from an image, and drawing attention to a certain area. You can also apply a gradient or stroke to an image to draw attention to it.
Lighting and Color Adjustments: These features are useful when you need to take a picture or create a new one. They help you adjust the image’s brightness, contrast, white balance, color temperature, or the hue, saturation, or brightness of an image.
Colors Layers: This function allows you to make changes to one or many different colors in an image. For instance, if you want to change the black and white color of an image, you can use this tool to edit it.
The Adjustment Panel: The Adjustment panel makes it easy to adjust the brightness, contrast, and color saturation of your image. You can even change how your file looks in the Browse mode. It’s available in the Edit tab and is a quick access tool.
The Filter menu has many other tools, including unsharp, blur, drop shadow, emboss, make selection, selective color, haze, and lighten. You can also use these tools to adjust the blur or sharpness of the selected area or the font style of your selection. You can also use these tools to create a sepia or a bluish tint to your image.
The Grid (formerly: Guides) is a good way to align objects in your image. It’s also useful for keeping an image’s edges straight. You can add guides to your image, or create a grid that’s already set.
The crop tool allows you to define the shape of a selected area of your image. For instance, you can crop the top, bottom, left, or right of your image. You can also crop parts of a layer.
You can use the Puppet Warp tool to distort an object. You can adjust the size, position, and even the outline of a selection. To do this, simply click and drag an edge of your selection.

I have downloaded the latest version of the particles plugin, which is 0.8.5, and I am trying to load it into the GLM GUI. I did that according to the guide found here.
