Using Photoshop to Lighten a Color

In Figure 2-8, I used the Curves dialog box to perform some basic lightening/darkening of the image. You can accomplish the same results using the Curves dialog box or using either the basic adjustment tools under the Adjustments/Adjustment Layers/Curves option in the main Photoshop window. However, Curves is one of the easier dialog boxes to use, so I recommend using that for your first lightening/darkening experience. If you’re not familiar with the Curves box, you can read about it in Chapter 18.

The levels (L) option in the Curves dialog box makes it easy to darken or lighten an image.

You can also save a Curves adjustment layer in a Photoshop file. This method is not as convenient as saving a Levels adjustment layer, but you’ll use a different one to achieve some additional effects, and, for most purposes, it’s an acceptable, if not ideal, approach.

Photoshop Edit

Start Photoshop Elements and click “File”. The “New” option is under the “File” menu. You can also click the “New” button in the top-left corner of the app.

In the New window you should see two tabs. The left one is titled “Photo”. To create images, click on this tab and then choose “Edit Images” from the menu below it.

This is my list structure:
